EMS Division

South Brick Fire Department took over transport in our city 3 years ago when the local first aid company merged into the department due to financial difficulties. We currently run 3 front line medical transport units with an older Ford Type 1 truck availible as a spare. Volunteers man these units 24/7 all year thanks in part to our live in program at our station. We have atleast 1 medical unit on scene at every call that is not an investigation/false alarm.

Our EMS operations are run under a separate division within the department. Our EMS members do not have to be fire certified, though most are. Members can be part of both EMS and Fire if they want to.

SBFD runs 3 EMS transport units. The one on the left in a 2004 Ford/Horton ambulance, the last remaining of 3 units built for SBFDs run into the EMS field a few years ago. The two on the right are the newest to the fleet, they are 2010 International/Med Tech special operations ambulances, which also carry a 50 gal. CAFS in the large compartment on the driver side, which can be used for car fires and exterior attack on small room and contents fires. SBFD ops do not allow for interior attack on structure fires with these trucks, though other cities with similar trucks do. More about these new rigs will be seen later in the whats new page.

Rescue 42

Picture
Rescue 42 is a 2008 Seagrave Rescue engine. It carries a full set of extrication and specialized rescue equipment. It will also respond on medical assist calls. This unit is staffed by both our fire and ems divisions within the department. This unit also goes out of town for mutual aid stand bys.

Truck 42

Along with its truck company runs, Truck 42 also assists with the EMS side with special operations rescues. The truck also carries a small set of extrication equipment to assist with R42 if needed. The truck is also great at blocking a scene to protect our firefighters at work on the road.
